The Assam
Engineering Institute was established on 16th January 1948 and it is one of the
premier Institutions in the North East catering the needs of technical manpower
in various fields of engineering. Presently the institute have six departments -- (i)Civil, (ii) Mechanical, (iii)Electrical, (iv) Electronics &
Telecommunication, (v) Chemical and (vi) Computer Engineering. the total intact is 240 per year. All the
courses are under the state council for Technical Education, Assam and
recognized by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
Assam Engineering Institute Library: The library
was establish in 1948 in a small room and in 1952 there were 986 volumes of
books on various engineering subjects valued Rs. 11,111/- in additions to a few
journals. Now with a carpet area of 257.5 Sq. meter; there are 31012 nos. of
books, including the text books. The library has a good numbers of Reference
Books in Engineering, along with Guide Books, Hand Books, Environmental Science etc. besides a few nos. of journals and news papers.
The Govt. of Assam sanctions book grants time to time. Every year the institute
purses books from the students fund also.
